11 Break-ice Game Activities For Running ClubAre you looking for new activities to keep your running club fresh and engaging? Look no further! Here are eleven break-ice game activities that will get your runners excited and motivated. With a little bit of creativity, you can easily adapt these games to fit your specific running needs. So grab your sneakers and let’s get started!

The Human Knot

Form a circle with your group, then have everyone grab the hand of someone else in the circle (doesn’t matter who) with their right hand. Then, do the same with their left hand so that everyone is holding 2 hands of 2 different people. The goal is to untangle yourselves without letting go of anyone’s hands!

The Name Game

Have everyone in the group say their name and one fun fact about themselves. For example, “Hi, I’m Sarah and I love to sing karaoke.”

Two Truths and A Lie

Have everyone in the group say three things about themselves, two of which are true and one of which is a lie. For example, “I’ve run a marathon, I’ve been skydiving, and I’ve climbed Mount Everest.” The rest of the group then has to guess which statement is the lie.

Would You Rather?

Pose a series of “would you rather” questions to the group and have everyone answer them. For example, “Would you rather run a 5K or a 10K?”

Name That Tune

One person starts singing a song, and the others in the group have to guess what song it is. The first person to guess correctly gets to start singing the next song.

I’ve Never…

Take turns going around the group and making statements about things you’ve never done, such as “I’ve never been out of the country” or “I’ve never broken a bone.” If anyone in the group has done that thing, they have to step out of the circle. The last person remaining in the circle wins!

Name that Movie

Quote a famous line from a movie and have the group guess which movie it’s from.

Word Association

Go around the circle and have each person say one word. The next person then has to say a word in response that is associated with the first word. For example, if the first person says “running,” the second person might say “shoes.” This continues until someone can’t think of an associated word or repeats a word that has already been said.

Categories

Choose a category (e.g., sports, countries, animals) and have everyone in the group come up with an example of something that falls into that category. For example, if the category is sports, someone might say “baseball.” The goal is to see who can come up with the most examples within a minute or two.

Alphabet Game

Go around the circle and have each person say one word starting with the next letter of the alphabet. For example, if the first person says “apple,” the second person might say “banana.” This continues until someone can’t think of a word or repeats a word that has already been said.

20 Questions

One person thinks of an object, animal, person, etc., and then everyone else takes turns asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions about it in order to try to figure out what it is. For example, if the answer is “a cat,” some possible questions could be “Is it bigger than a breadbox?” or “Does it have four legs?” No fair asking leading questions like “Is it an animal?”

Running club can be a fun way to get in shape and make friends, but it can also be tough to break the ice and get to know people. These 11 activities will help you do just that by getting everyone moving and talking. Have you tried any of these games at your running club?
